Operations Excellence & Sustainability Leader 

POSITION SUMMARY

The Operational Excellence & Sustainability Leader drives the implementation of World Class Manufacturing (WCM) and Lean principles, acting as a catalyst for continuous improvement across the division. This role leads problem-solving initiatives and oversees key programs including Employee Involvement, 5S, and Sustainability (energy and waste reduction).

REQUIRED SKILLS & EXPERIENCE:

  • Post-secondary education in engineering, industrial studies, or a related field (or equivalent experience)
  • 3–5 years of manufacturing experience (automotive preferred)
  • Strong knowledge of Lean, Six Sigma, 5S, TWI, and quality/environmental systems
  • Proven ability to lead cultural change and continuous improvement initiatives
  • Strong project management, problem-solving, and analytical skills
  • Effective communication, presentation, and facilitation abilities
  • Ability to build relationships and influence across all levels
  • Technical mindset with innovative, “outside-the-box” thinking
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and solid math/communication skills
  • Familiarity with quality tools (FMEA, APQP, MSA)
  • Strong organizational and leadership capabilities
  • Flexibility to work off-shifts/weekends as needed

Assets: CMVP, CEM certification (or in progress)

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Operational Excellence

  • Lead WCM initiatives, Kaizen events, and continuous improvement projects
  • Promote Lean culture and employee engagement
  • Manage Employee Suggestion, 5S, and sustainability programs
  • Identify and implement improvements in safety, quality, productivity, and service
  • Apply structured problem-solving (e.g., 5 Why, Fishbone)
  • Track, analyze, and report performance metrics
  • Support production teams and ensure business goals are met
  • Drive timely execution of improvement initiatives within budget

Sustainability

  • Lead energy and waste reduction initiatives
  • Identify, assess, and implement energy-saving projects
  • Monitor KPIs and manage energy tracking/reporting systems
  • Conduct audits and develop measurement & verification strategies
  • Support sustainability programs and government initiatives
  • Lead cross-functional teams and provide training
  • Prepare regular energy and performance reports

General

  • Maintain professionalism, accountability, and a positive attitude
  • Follow company policies, quality/environmental standards, and safety regulations
  • Support workplace culture, teamwork, and continuous improvement
  • Ensure a clean, safe, and organized work environment
